RMC Breach Parameters Suite

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Risk Management Center (RMC) developed a set of toolboxes to help dam and levee safety risk assessors assess initial dam breach parameters.

NOTE: After downloading a file containing Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), users may need to unblock the file to enable all features to function properly. After downloading, right-click the downloaded filename, select ‘Properties’ in the contextual menu, left-click on the check box for ‘Unblock’ under ‘Security’ on the 'General' tab, and left-click on 'Apply' or 'OK' to finish.

RMC Embankment Dam Failures Toolbox

The spreadsheet tools contained in this toolbox assess the initial dam breach parameters using the empirical relationships of Bowles et al. (2014) [revised Xu and Zhang (2009)], Xu and Zhang (2009), Froehlich (2008, 1995), Von Thun and Gillette (1990), U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (1988), and MacDonald and Langridge-Monopolis (1984) as well as the peak breach outflow from various regression equations.

The spreadsheet tools contained in this toolbox assess the initial dam breach parameters by comparison to embankment dam failures using the databases of Wahl (1998), Froehlich (2008), MacDonald and Langridge-Monopolis (1984), Ehasz and Bowles (2014), and Xu and Zhang (2008). Searchable databases of embankment dam failures are also included.
This is the RMC Empirical Embankment Dam Breach Parameters Toolbox version 1.0.   This is the RMC Embankment Dam Failures Toolbox version 1.0.
